Selmer Super Action Series II Alto Saxophone UNLACQUERED
Selmer Super Action 80 Series II alto saxophone, s/n 565,xxx. It's pretty rare to see a Selmer Series II missing most of its lacquer, so this is something of a rare bird. The original owner lived right on the coast of North Carolina, and what you see is the natural result of a few years of ocean breezes. I realize that the finish of this particular sax is quite polarizing, so if you're looking for a mint condition horn, look elsewhere! However, I can tell you that this one plays quite well. My repairman just regulated everything, so the pads are sealing extremely well, and everything feels tight and quiet. The missing lacquer may have even given the horn some extra tonal complexity and presence (its ability to resonate/vibrate may be enhanced by the missing lacquer). Any potential buyer shouldn't be worried about the sax wearing out prematurely because of its lack of lacquer. Just take a look at the antique 1920's and older saxophones without any lacquer, and you'll see that they will last forever. Yamaha even makes an unlacquered 82Z Custom, so I'm confident this sax will last you for decades!
