Rare 1929 King Voll-True "King De Luxe" Alto Saxophone, Gold Plated, Full Pearls, Elaborate Engraving, Video
1929 King Voll-True alto saxophone, s/n 123170. King made their saxophones with several finishes, and this was their very rare top of the line "King De Luxe" version, which features a heavy gold plating, pearl inlay key touches and elaborate engraving from the bell to the tip of the neck. During the overhaul process, we were surprised to discover that the engraving on the neck really did extend to its tip under the cork, where the only person likely to see this is the repairman. This sax is truly a work of art, and is in incredible original condition especially considering that it's nearly 100 years old. The case is original to the sax and also in wonderful condition.
The horn just received a top of the line overhaul from Eric Beach, who is one of the best repairmen in the business. His work is top notch and he uses the best materials available, including Pisoni Pro pads. Eric installed domed rivetless metal resonators, similar in form to early Mark VI resonators.
The sax is a joy to play. It has a focused, dark, sweet sound that is quite a departure from modern horns.
