53,xxx Selmer Super Balanced Action Alto Saxophone, 98% Original Lacquer, Fresh Overhaul
1954 53,xxx Selmer SBA alto saxophone. Here's a near mint Super Balanced Action alto that is one of the best preserved 5-digit Selmers I've ever come across. The full serial number is 53339, which makes this one of the last Super Balanced Action saxes Selmer ever made before the Mark VI. The lacquer is nearly all intact, and is a beautiful, smooth amber color. The neck is original to the horn and has a matching serial number. The sax comes in the original Chesterfield triple case, with the original extra clarinet case.
The sax arrived with all of the original pads and metal resonators. It just received a full mechanical overhaul from Aaron Barnard, who is one of the very best in the business. He reused the original metal resonators and installed Pisoni Pro pads, which are the highest quality pads out there. The sax seals perfectly and plays effortlessly down to low Bb. The action feels crisp and smooth, which can be attributed to Aaron's expert key fitting work.
This SBA has an incredible sound that is sweeter and rounder than a typical Mark VI. It can still project when you push it. The sound is incredibly charming and colorful. This horn is ideal for either a player or collector.
