48,xxx Selmer Super Balanced Action Alto Saxophone
1951 48,xxx Selmer Super Balanced Action alto saxophone. SBA altos are starting to become as sought after as their tenor counterpart, and for good reason. These horns are just fun to play. They are super expressive and responsive. There's a sweetness to the sound that later Selmers rarely capture.
This SBA is a great example. Although the lacquer looks very close to being original, with perfect engraving and no signs of buffing, I suspect that this is a factory relacquer that was impeccably done. There are no lacquer runs and the engraving is deep. The horn is in excellent overall shape and there are no signs of any serious repairs or damage. The pads are in great condition and won't need to be changed anytime soon. My tech just performed a full regulation, and the sax plays incredibly well from top to bottom. The sax comes in the original Chesterfield tripak case which is in excellent condition. The neck is original to the horn and has a matching serial number. If you're looking for a world class vintage alto, this is a great one to consider.
