1962 103,xxx Selmer Mark VI Tenor Saxophone, Silver Plated, Video
1962 103,xxx Selmer Mark VI tenor saxophone with silver plating and a gold wash bell. Early 10x,xxx tenors are magnificent horns, and share the same playing characteristics as those from the 9x,xxx s/n range. Think amazing tone and presence with a boost of energy and sheen over the 8x,xxx Brecker range. All in all, this is a cream of the crop vintage that also happens to be a tremendous value since you're not paying for the allure of a 5-digit horn.
This sax just arrived from its longtime owner who can no longer play due to health reasons. The sax wasn't originally silver plated, but it's gorgeous, even with some tarnish on the silver and gold. In addition to the silver plating, the bell is gold washed, and the keyguards and clothes guard are all gold plated. The neck is original to the horn and has a matching serial number. It's never been bent down.
The sax will receive a full setup and polish from my repairman prior to shipping, most likely in mid-January. The sax currently has some shallow dings that will be addressed as well. The horn has a mix of pads, but they appear to be in decent condition and still have some life left. My repairman will replace pads as needed, and the horn will feel locked in when he's done with it. Already, my impression is very positive. It has a beautiful sound and presence, and will only get better when regulated. The sax comes in a hard contoured SKB case in good condition.
The sax is available for sale immediately, and will ship as soon as it's been through the repair shop.
Here's a video taken of this horn in action. It already is playing well and should sound even better when it's been through the shop.
