1952 49,xxx Selmer Super Balanced Action SBA Tenor Saxophone, 98% Original Lacquer
1952 49,xxx Selmer SBA tenor saxophone with approximately 98% original lacquer. This is a remarkably preserved sax which has a beautiful dark honey gold lacquer. The neck and body s/n's match. The neck is in amazing condition and has never been pulled down.
The pads are mostly original. The original metal resonators are mostly present, with the exception of the palm keys and low Eb. My tech just adjusted the horn replacing a few pads, and the sax plays well through the entire range of the horn. He repaired a slight dent near the low Bb key guard foot, as well as several tiny dings on the bow. The horn is now dent free and the body is in amazing condition for its age. SBA tenors in this condition just don't come up for sale very often. I've never seen one personally in such amazing condition. The sax comes in the original Chesterfield tripak case.
Sonically, this is everything you could expect out of an SBA in this s/n range. It has precision and punch that is characteristic of later SBA's. It has a beautiful and unique sound that only comes from horns of this vintage.
