1939 Selmer Balanced Action BA Tenor Saxophone
1939 Selmer Balanced Action tenor saxophone, s/n 27,xxx. Here's an early Balanced Action tenor sax that was previously owned by a top local pro. The sax was just overhauled in 2017 and has had little playing time since then. The lacquer has a beautiful dark honey golden hue and is approximately 90% intact. The horn was fitted with top of the line reusable TM resonators. The neck is original to the horn and in perfect condition, never having been pulled down. This BA has an uncommon art deco engraving with a treble clef just above the low Bb key. These were originally sold in the Australian market and are quite rare. The horn appears to have been previously refinished, although the current coat of lacquer looks quite old.
This sax has a gorgeous, open sound that takes on air very well. It's everything that you could ask for and more with a Balanced Action tenor. It's mellower than a Mark VI, but can easily fill up a room. This is a great playing sax. The only reason why it's being sold by the previous owner is that he's moving to a more modern setup. The sax comes in a Virtuoso branded case, which is similar in form and function to a Bam Trekking case.
