161,xxx Selmer Mark VI Alto Saxophone, GOLD PLATED, WOW!
Here's an incredibly unique gold plated 1968 161,xxx Selmer Mark VI alto saxophone. This is a one-owner horn that has never been relacquered. It was elaborately gold plated with silver accents by Anderson Plating in the 1980's. The sax is really a work of art, and the contrasting silver and gold finish is incredible to see in person. Many of the keys have additional custom engraving, done at the time that the sax was gold plated.
The sax plays as good as it looks. There's extra depth and smoothness to the sound that gold plating typically gives the sax. It plays up and down with responsiveness and energy. The pads are of medium age and still have a lot of life left in them. I think that the sax could use a minor service from the new owner, but it plays very well as-is. The resonators appear to be reusable metal, similar to TM or Reso-tech resonators. The sax comes in a top of the line Walt Johnson case.
