1966 140,xxx Selmer Mark VI alto saxophone with approximately 90% original lacquer. This horn was literally an attic find. The son of the original owner recently discovered it while helping to clean out his parents' attic. Although the original case had to be replaced, the sax inside was very well preserved. The sax comes in a new/never used Bam Cabine Panther case, which retails for $400.
The sax arrived with all of its original pads, so I sent it out for a top of the line overhaul from one of the best repair techs in the US. The horn is set up with Pisoni Pro pads, plastic resonators (which is what this horn originally came with from the factory) and expert key fitting. The horn feels tight and locked in, arguably playing better than the day it left the factory. The neck is original to the horn and in great condition. There were some dings in the bow that were taken out by my tech, and the work was done very well. The bow feels smooth and perfectly round. The bell flare looks perfect and has never been bent.
This is the best Sanborn-era alto I've ever played. There's an intensity and presence in the sound that makes this a true standout horn. If you're looking for a prime-era Mark VI alto that truly excels, look no further than this one.
