114,xxx Selmer Mark VI Tenor Saxophone, Fresh Overhaul
1964 114,xxx Selmer Mark VI tenor saxophone. This is an incredible playing early Mark VI, produced in a very desirable period. These horns are highly sought after and retain more in common with a good 5-digit horn than those produced later. It was manufactured right before Selmer switched side Bb and C mechanisms, so it has the older 5-digit style side keys. The neck is original to the horn and has a matching serial number.
Sonically, this is one of the most fun, engaging Mark VI's I've ever played. It has an enormous dynamic range, and seems to keep going no matter how hard you push it. The sax is incredibly easy to play from top to bottom, and low notes can whisper out with minimum effort.
The sax just received a top of the line overhaul from Eric Beach, who is one of the very best in the business. His overhauls are incredible, and it puts this horn in a different category because of his work. He uses top of the line parts, including Pisoni Pro pads and reusable metal TM resonators. The sax was chemically stripped just before the overhaul, so what you see is the bare brass. Visually, this sax is stunning. To me, it looks a lot like a Reference 54, but with a real history of being played for decades. The sax most likely didn't have its original lacquer when I received it. However, the engraving is 100% present and doesn't show any signs of buffing. The sax comes in a brand new Bam Cabine case, pictured.
